Hello, and welcome to The Garden!
This week in the newsletter the essence of life, Kiwis and, a villain’s soundtrack. But first, why is can’t I just do things?!
Doing things is hard.
In fact, doing things is consistently harder than I expect them to be.
I ruminate on things, on decisions, on conversations. I don’t just do things, I drag myself to aim in the general direction of doing things.
At the end of the day, things get done, yes, but not without a fight.
Please, give me a deadline, this is what I said to my professor back in February when they told me I could submit an annoying assignment whenever I wanted to.
Please give me a deadline, is what I tell myself every time I even think about doing something.
Lately, deadlines have become a weird obnoxious friend that is always asking are you done yet? Are you done yet? Are you done yet?
And as terrible as it sounds, I feel like an obnoxious weird friend that pushes you to do things is, at times, necessary.
These past two weeks have been an interesting exercise of a vacation without the vacation part.
As I tried to find housing in DC, plan my financials for the semester, and write for the school paper, I found it really hard to find a balance between much-needed rest and doing the things I need to do.
This month has felt like a time in-between, not quite a month, but a hallway between one room and another.
And I think that is alright.
Sometimes a certain level of boredom is good, as long as I have a deadline to let me know when to start rowing in the general direction of doing things.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Argentinian rock lately
The official soundtrack of latin uncles and obnoxious teens, argentinian rock is one of my favorite cultural phenomena.
Argentina, objectively Latin America’s second worst villain, has (as villains do) one of the the best soundtrack of the continent.

What is Qi? What is the Hadoken and why did I love this 20 minutes about daoist philosophy so much?
Valve obsessively playtests every game they do, in an almost scientific way. I will probably never develop a game, but boy do I enjoy Game Maker’s Toolkit.
